The challenge

Chair jackThe severely autistic, well built client needed to be moved in his chair and the chair then locked in position. The mechanism was required to be extremely discrete and work very quickly.

A metal frame with rotating casters was connected to a baseboard using a bottle jack. The chair was then screwed to the baseboard which had high friction material glued to its underside. The chair can be raised onto the casters by pumping up the jack, allowing free movement. When the jack pressure is released, the casters retract and the chair is stable and resists movement.

The client can now be moved by his mother quickly and easily.
