Sink tap operating aids

The challenge

Sink tap operating aidsThe client, who has multiple sclerosis and uses a wheelchair, is unable to raise her arms much above waist level and was unable to operate the special mixer tap on her bowl and a half sink.

The tap lever was drilled through to take four lengths of nylon cord. The cords were taken through screw eyes in the windowsill and worktop down to positions convenient for the client on both her right and left sides.

Two cords operate the on and off movements and the other two move the lever from side to side to control the water temperature. Another two cords were attached to the tap spout , taken down through screw eyes as before, to allow it to be turned between the bowl and the half bowl.

The client has a greater degree of independence at the kitchen sink.
