Bolton sailing club wheelchair jetties

Bolton Sailing club is a Sailability centre, which offers sailing for disabled people. Previously, disabled sailors were lifted into their boats on a shore mounted crane, which involved pulling the boat ashore and relaunching with every changeover of sailor.

Remap worked with Jaguar LandRover apprentices to develop a solution.

Car seat safety screen

12-year old George with developmental and behavioural issues lashes out when anxious and finds transitions stressful. His mother requires a screen to separate him from his siblings in the back seat of their car. A twin-wall polycarbonate screen was made that sits between the individual rear seats, keeping them apart.

Balcony platform and ramp

The client used to be able to access her balcony but now uses a wheeled walker and cannot negotiate the almost 5″ drop. There was insufficient room to install a straight ramp so a combination of platform and ramp was required.

Head-mounted binoculars

A keen bird-watcher has near-total paralysis of her right hand. She had been finding it impossible to hold her binoculars steady, and wanted a device to attach them to her head and adjust them using her left hand only.

Workshop stool back support

The client needed a workshop stool that would provide support to his badly damaged pelvis and back to allow him to return to work in comfort. Working with him and his OT we devised the right amount of support, stability and mobility by modifying an existing commercially available stool.

Bow stand for one handed archery project

North Lincolnshire council run activity sessions at various “wellbeing hubs” around the county. One of the activities is archery and although they had a bow stand made by Remap some years ago for wheelchair use they asked for another one suitable for use both in a chair and standing.

Wheelchair Trolley

The client’s two children are both wheelchair users and to improve the family’s freedom during a trip to the USA (as well as at home), a modification was needed to allow both children to be pushed by a single parent.

Servo assisted sailing

Remap are regular attenders at the RYA Sailability Conference. This project is one of their members projects, but referencing here provides useful archive material for a very typical Remap area of work.

Variable Height Washing Line

The client can’t raise her arms to hang the washing out without severe pain. A washing line that could be easily lowered and raised was needed to make this day to day task bearable.

GPS Tracker

The client is a power wheel chair user who is able to control the chair himself but unable to use his hands for much else.

Wheelchair tray

The client required a light weight tray for her wheelchair for use when out and about.
